Finding accommodation - Exchange students

As an international student admitted to Aix Marseille Université as an exchange student, you can benefit from a pre-booking at one of the region's CROUS university residences. These residences are located close to the university's various campuses and offer single rooms with private bathrooms and toilets.

As the search for accommodation in France can sometimes be complex, we strongly advise you to take advantage of this CROUS pre-booking service.

Step 1: Receive a complementary email

  1. Once you have been admitted to an exchange program at amU, you will receive an email requesting additional information:
    • Whether or not you wish to pre-book a CROUS room, and your INE number if applicable;
    • Your emergency contacts;
    • Any special needs you may have;

  2. This information should be entered on the .

  2. Fill in your INE number on the mobility portal
    Log on to the and fill in your user profile with your INE number.

Step 3: Receive an email detailing the steps to be taken

After you have received your INE number and have been informed of your wish to reside at CROUS, your mobility manager will contact you by email and inform you of the steps to be taken. This e-mail will be sent to you:

  1. At the end of June, for arrival in the first semester of the academic year.
  2. In December, for arrival in the second semester.

Step 4: Receive a CROUS reservation proposal

  1. The CROUS will send you a room reservation proposal by e-mail.

  2. Upon receipt of this e-mail, you have 120 hours (5 days) to accept this proposal.

  3. Acceptance of the room offer requires an online payment of €100 as an advance on the rent. This payment is mandatory to validate the reservation.

Please note that you will not be able to choose your residence and room, and that allocations are made on a first-come, first-served basis. However, our teams will do their utmost to ensure that you are housed as close as possible to your campus!

Step 5: Prepare your rental file

As soon as you have validated your reservation of a CROUS room, put together your rental file online on the website .

Step 7: Collect your key

After making sure your online rental file is complete, go directly to the reception desk of your CROUS hall of residence.

Please note that if your online rental file is not complete, the receptionist will not be able to give you your key!

> Your commitments as a tenant

Having a room at CROUS means you are committed to:

  1. Staying in your university accommodation for the duration of your studies at Aix Marseille Université.
  2. Leaving your accommodation on the expiry date of your lease.

Please note that in the event of early departure, you will not be reimbursed (except in cases of force majeure).

> If you wish to extend your stay in CROUS residence

Extending your studies does not automatically mean extending your stay in your residence. You will first need to discuss this with your mobility manager, and then jointly apply to CROUS for an extension (if this is possible).

> If you don't want to rent a CROUS room
