1. Description
The Test de Connaissance du ¹ó°ù²¹²Ôç²¹¾±²õ is a level exam in French as a foreign language issued by .
It allows non-French natives to assess and validate their knowledge of French in a simple and quick way.
It works like a photographic snapshot of an individual's language skills at a given time in his or her life and is valid for 2 years.
The test is composed of :
- 3 compulsory tests (MCQ, Multiple Choice Questionnaire):
oral comprehension, mastery of language structures, written comprehension. - 2 complementary tests (optional) :
written expression, oral expression.
TCF results place candidates on the Council of Europe's six-level scale*: from level A1 to level C2. (See the CEFR self-assessment grid in English, French or Spanish)

WARNING: The SUFLE does not take registration in the TCF for people who wish to obtain French nationality, renew their residence permit nor emigrate to Quebec/Canada (If you are in these cases, please consult the list of the TCF centres on the website).

3. How to register
Registrations can only be made remotely*, depending on the method of payment chosen:
- by post (payment by cheque) OR
- by e-mail (payment by bank transfer)
See the details of the examination centre on the registration form.
ATTENTION: do not send anything outside the registration dates.
*For payment by credit card, please make an appointment with the examination centre via the contact form (section "Certifications TCF/DALF")
Documents to be submitted:
- The registration form filled in legibly (in documents to download, opposite)
- Your identity document (passport, ID or residence permit with photo)
- The payment (see details in the document Payment Terms)
- 1 ID photo
- For remote registration by post: 1 stamped envelope with your address (for sending the convocation)
4. Rates
4 possible formulas:

WARNING: Registration fees are not refundable.
5. Results
5.1 General information
Results are usually available 2 to 3 weeks after the tests.
NO results will be given remotely (neither by phone nor by e-mail).
- Candidates must pick them up in person at the secretariat.
- It is possible to make a power of attorney (to have someone retreive them for you).
- or to provide a stamped envelope for a registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt (prepaid at the rate according to the country of receipt). Write your name and address on the envelope and fill in the form for a registered letter, national or international mailing (available at post offices).
Note: Most French universities require a general level of B2, sometimes C1 depending on the specialities.
5.2 Current session
The results of the previous sessions are available for the entire period of validity of the certificates (i.e. 2 years).
