The Service Commun de la Documentation (SCD) of the University of Aix-Marseille is the result of the merger of the three SCDs of the pre-existing universities. Its statutes were adopted by the university's Board of Directors at its meeting of February 28, 2012, in accordance with decree no. 2011-996 of August 23, 2011.

Under the authority of the President, the SCD implements the university's documentation policy, coordinates resources and evaluates the services offered to users.

Present on all the university's campuses and sites, the SCD coordinates a network of more than sixty libraries that offer work spaces adapted for individual or group use, and are equipped with public computer workstations, an Internet connection and WiFi coverage.

• It holds more than 1,200,000 printed documents and provides access to a large portfolio of electronic resources (around 20,000 titles).

• It develops services for users, notably by training them in new information search techniques and in knowledge of specialized information sources.

• It is involved in projects to digitize and put on line the university's productions, and promotes their posting and distribution.

• Qualified staff are committed to meeting the documentary needs of the community they serve.

• It ensures that the university's documentary policy is in line with national IST policy, and participates in national and international documentary networks, thereby contributing to the university's reputation.
