The CIVIS3i program embodies excellence in European research collaboration. It brings together 4 universities of the European CIVIS Alliance: La Sapienza in Rome, the Université Libre de Bruxelles, the Universidad Autonoma de Madrid and Aix Marseille Université, in charge of coordinating the program. It receives European funding from MSCA COFUND-H2020 and co-financing from Amidex.
Bringing together leading researchers in a variety of disciplines, from art history to quantum physics to marine biology to name but a few, this cross-sectoral, interdisciplinary and international program aims to train highly qualified and employable researchers.
The CIVIS3i program has enabled the recruitment of 33 researchers from a dozen nationalities for 24-month fellowships. To date, 7 researchers have secured permanent positions in Europe and the UK.
Autumn School 2024: Coaching postdocs towards leadershipFrom
October 28 to 31, 2024, CIVIS3i organized its third training session on cross-disciplinary skills at the IMéRA Institute for Advanced Studies and the Canebière Campus of Aix Marseille Université (amU), with the aim of coaching postdocs towards leadership.
During the event, 18 researchers from the 4 partner universities benefited from a collective training session focused on career development. The main objective was to help postdocs acquire and perfect the essential skills needed to lead a team, both in the academic world and in other sectors.
The next training session is scheduled for spring in Brussels with the support of ULB teams, with a focus on drafting European projects.
CIVIS3i's scientific advances and European collaborationsAmong CIVIS3i
Among initial research results, we might mention the work of Dr. Edouardos Loukopoulos (UAM, Local-Mater) on revolutionary porous materials for removing harmful PFAS ("eternal pollutants") from water, or the conservation work on the work of Italian Gothic painter Michelino da Besozzo using Energy Dispersive X-ray Fluorescence (EDXRF) and Fiber Optic Reflectance (FORS) spectroscopic analysis carried out by Dr. Anna Delle Foglie within the CIVIS3i team.
A CIVIS3i delegation will be present at the CIVIS DAYS in Rome in June 2025, in the presence of participants from the 11 universities of the CIVIS alliance.
Thanks to all these initiatives, CIVIS3i plays a key role in the training of European researchers, offering them opportunities for development and professional integration within research and beyond.
Since 2021, CIVIS3i has strengthened European collaborations by establishing partnerships with universities, research institutes and more than 20 non-academic players. The program's research has led to the publication of four books and some twenty articles in reputed journals (see publications), as well as the organization of around one hundred conferences. They have also contributed to the development of public policies, reinforcing the program's impact on society.
